Take just one look at the bridal party’s faces as these brides walk down the aisle, and you can’t help but feel the love radiating off the screen. Though unfortunately gay weddings are not currently legal in Arizona, Jennifer and Amy were determined to join forces with friends and family to throw an unforgettable bash and markedly romantic union. The couple just may have snagged the coolest venue in all of Phoenix, as you’ll see in the photos captured by the lovely Jason and Anna of We Are Your Photogs.
Says Jennifer: We didn’t really have anything in mind when we started planning. We picked colors we both like, red and black, and it basically grew from there. Our Save the Dates and Invitations had red hearts on them, and then we starting incorporating red hearts on everything. We definitely wanted to incorporate things that both of us like.
Amy is an artist and builds robots out of old parts and metal, and Jennifer likes cute things like cupcakes and Hello Kitty. We wanted our wedding to be taken seriously, even though gay marriage is not legal in Arizona. We knew we wouldn’t have a “traditional” wedding, but we still wanted to incorporate some traditional aspects. We wanted our wedding and reception to feel romantic… so it was a given that we would incorporate lots of candles and red roses everywhere we could.
Jennifer’s advice for brides planning now: Give yourselves plenty of time. Enjoy the planning process because the actual wedding day is over in a blink of an eye. Use your imagination – don’t do something because you think it’s what you’re “supposed” to do.
